Happy Saturday, y'all! Man, what a week this has been. First, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all the new subscribers, many of whom are Facebook friends of mine who signed up after I disclosed that I’m deleting my Facebook account (more on that later).
In a first for Daveslist, several of you reached out to me this week asking if I was going to cover the Cambridge Analytica story. As the story grew day by day, I vacillated between just mentioning it, then adding a special section to this week’s issue covering it, to finally deciding to devote a special issue all on its own which will hit your inboxes in the next few days. The story is still unfolding (police raided their HQ just hours ago) so it’s a lot to cover but I’ve enlisted some data scientist friends of mine to help unpack it all. I’ve included the story that started it all in this issue, and you should definitely read it.
Aside from that, we’ve got some other really big stories this week, like the tragic first human fatality caused by an autonomous vehicle, a Chinese space station falling out of orbit in the coming days, and ice cream that cures hangovers.
Let’s get it on…
