How about some good news? It’s easy to focus on the ways we’re falling short as a species, but the fact is this is the best time in human history to be alive (so far…). Rates of poverty and violence are crashing, literacy is up across the board, and internet access is spreading to the darkest digital regions of the globe.

Nasty bugs are becoming more and more drug resistant as the antibiotic content of our food rises and antibiotics are overprescribed in general. This novel new drug delivery system fools bacteria into carrying the drug inside their protective walls by binding the antibiotic to iron. Very cool idea.

This is a good news / bad news kind of thing. The bad news is that you should probably work for longer than you want to. The good news is that every day you punch the clock beyond a certain age, the benefits are exponential. That’s due to the power of compound interest, and it’s interest that’s been compounding on your behalf for years whether you’ve been diligently saving for retirement or not.
